Overview

Our Tech Stars camp is a dynamic, mixed-age program for kids aged 3–13 who love to build, play, and create together. Through a blend of robotics, coding, circuits, and arts, campers of different ages collaborate on exciting projects that spark creativity and teamwork. It’s the perfect space for siblings or social learners to explore tech in a fun, supportive environment — with something new for every age, every day.

Program Highlights

Campers will start by building a foundation in robotics. They’ll undertake an Intro to Robotics session with a fun Paper Robot Mission (similar to our other venues, creating a robot model to learn basics). Then, they dive into electronic kits like Makeblock Neuron where they construct cool devices – for example, a DJ Music Machine and an Electric Guitar using modular electronic blocks. These Neuron projects teach circuits and programming logic in a tangible way (kids connect blocks that light up, play sound, respond to buttons, etc.). They’ll also work with the Edison robot – coding this small LEGO-compatible robot to solve a maze and respond to claps (creating a Clap-Controlled Robot and an Obstacle-Avoiding Robot). By blending craft, electronics, and coding, the robotics portion excites both younger and older kids: younger ones handle simpler tasks in each project, while older ones can push the limits (like tweaking the Edison code to run the maze faster).

In the coding arena, Onederland campers use Scratch (for those who can read well) and simplified interfaces for the younger ones when needed. The group starts with an Introduction to Scratch and learns about events (when keys are pressed, when characters collide, etc.). Then, everyone builds some classic games: a Baseball batting game and a Fruit Catcher game. These projects are great equalizers – older kids might add extra features (like scoring and levels) while younger ones focus on basic game function, but in the end, they all get to play each other’s games. The camp continues with a two-part Rocket Blaster game project, which really ignites excitement – campers design space-themed sprites and code a rocket that flies through obstacles. Collaboration is encouraged: older campers might mentor younger ones during coding, reinforcing their own knowledge and fostering leadership.

Creativity is a big part of Onederland’s vibe. Campers work on Recycled Crafts (making inventions from recycled materials – think cardboard robots or bottle rockets), String Art & Yarn Crafts (which might include making friendship bracelets with coded messages in Morse, or decorative string patterns that relate to geometric concepts), and DIY Mini Dioramas building tiny worlds in shoeboxes (possibly depicting a scene from their favorite game or a futuristic city). These art projects provide a nice change of pace from screen time and let artistic talents shine. Plus, they teach design thinking – kids plan a project and execute it, which is much like engineering.

Onederland uniquely features a Circuits Lab segment using Snap Circuits kits. Campers snap together circuit modules to create real working gadgets. They’ll start by lighting up an LED and controlling a small motor (learning how electricity flows), then build on that to create things like a musical doorbell that plays a tune when a circuit is closed. This hands-on circuit work demystifies electronics – kids see, touch, and rearrange parts to invent something new. It’s especially empowering for the older campers, and the younger ones love the instant results (lights on! fan spinning!). By camp end, some might even design their own circuit combinations (under guidance) – for example, combining a light sensor with an alarm.

To keep minds sharp, we include Mental Math “Chisanbop” game sessions – an energetic chase game that requires doing quick math or solving a riddle to advance. Campers also participate in Pottery and Storytelling as creative enrichment: they’ll mold clay into whatever their imagination suggests (robots, cars, creatures) which develops spatial skills, and they’ll take turns in storytelling activities – perhaps each camper continues a story where the last left off, resulting in hilarious and inventive tales. These activities build confidence in self-expression and public speaking in a subtle, enjoyable way.

Yes! It’s a mixed-age camp, making it ideal for siblings or friends of different ages to attend together and collaborate while learning.

Absolutely. Activities are differentiated by age and ability: younger children focus on simpler hands-on tasks, while older campers take on more advanced challenges and often mentor younger ones.

Sessions are led by certified trainers with expertise in STEM education and child engagement. Our instructors use a proven, activity-based curriculum that balances fun and learning.

Yes, but in moderation and for purpose-driven learning only, such as coding on Scratch. All screen time is balanced with plenty of hands-on, physical, and creative activities.
